Achala Doraiswamy, M.D.

About Dr. Doraiswamy

Dr. Doraiswamy earned a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She then completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas, Houston. From there, Dr. Doraiswamy completed a hematology and oncology fellowship at Scripps Clinical and Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla, California.

While at Scripps, she was a Fellow Advisory Council Member with the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Prior to joining California Cancer Associates for Research & Excellence, Dr. Doraiswamy worked at Kaiser Permanente San Diego in San Marcos, California, where she was a member on the Lung Cancer Subspecialty Advisory Board.

Dr. Doraiswamy believes that developing close relationships with her patients allows her to help them navigate one of the most difficult times of their lives. She values honesty and balancing optimism with reality when it comes to treating cancer. Her greatest strength is her ability to put her patients at ease with her sense of humor and relatability. Dr. Doraiswamy’s goal is to provide honesty and humanity to all of her patients.

After watching someone very close to her deal with a brain tumor, Dr. Doraiswamy chose to focus on oncology in her medical school education. Her close friend went through a great deal to survive and is now a physician himself. Watching his struggle and triumph gave Dr. Doraiswamy hope and a drive to help others.

When not in the office, Dr. Doraiswamy loves spending time with her husband and three small boys. She lives an active lifestyle, enjoying pilates and playing tennis. Originally from Brooklyn, Dr. Doraiswamy and her family enjoy traveling.
