About Dr. James Sinclair

Dr. Sinclair was raised in Wisconsin where he completed his undergraduate and medical school training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His mentor at Madison, Dr. Robert Schilling, suggested he do his post M.D. training at UCSD with Dr. Helen Rainey and Dr. Mark Green, who continued to mentor him in the field of hematology and medical oncology. Dr. Sinclair began his private practice in 1987 and has spent the last several years fully engaged in the private practice of hematology and medical oncology.

Dr. Sinclair is an optimistic and compassionate doctor. When treating patients, he first gains clinical insight and then creates a treatment plan based on each patient’s unique needs. Dr. Sinclair believes that the best way to support a patient is to help him or her maintain a great quality of life through a healthy diet, physical activity and stress management.

Dr. Sinclair has offices in La Jolla and Encinitas. He is the Medical Director of the Scripps Cancer Center at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. His interests include benign hematology, all forms of cancer, as well as palliative medicine that led to his position as medical director of a local hospice program. As a lover of sports, Dr. Sinclair sees himself as the “quarterback” for his patients as they try to navigate their way through the complex arena of cancer care.

In his spare time, Dr. Sinclair enjoys being outdoors hiking or hanging out at the beach. Dr. Sinclair enjoys craft beer and fine wine with his fiancé and visiting his children and grandchildren.

"Life is so fleeting, it’s so important for me to put a smile on someone’s face, give back to others, and try to leave this world a better place than I found it!"
