About Dr. Valerie Galvan-Turner

Valerie B. Galvan Turner, MD, is a fellowship-trained and board-certified gynecologic oncologist. Dr. Galvan Turner earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and her bachelor’s in biology from The University of Texas at Austin. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Galvan Turner also provides gynecologic oncology services through the Ascension Seton Specialty Care Center. She is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Society of Gynecologic Oncology.

Specializing in gynecologic malignancies, her primary focus is the surgical and medical treatment of ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, endometrial cancer and other malignancies of the female reproductive system. Dr. Galvan Turner performs both open and minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic assisted surgeries, as well as complex gynecologic surgery. Before joining RCH, she was the director of clinical trials for gynecologic oncology at the University of Texas Dell Medical School where she was involved with NRG Oncology, the NCI sponsored cooperative group for oncology clinical trials. Prior to that, she was director of clinical research and disease team leader for gynecologic oncology and gynecologic malignancies at West Virginia University and the West Virginia University Cancer Institute. Her research interests include healthcare disparities, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer and the role of obesity on cancer recurrence.

Growing up in a small rural town in Texas, she takes great pride in understanding and serving diverse communities. Dr. Galvan Turner has a strong commitment to teaching medical students, residents and fellows. She is passionate about working towards a future that gives her son’s and everyone’s children the opportunity for health equity. Galvan Turner is fluent in Spanish, and outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and exploring all the amazing sights and activities of Riverside and Southern California.
