About Dr. Sullivan

Dr. Sullivan earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida and earned her medical degree from Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She then completed a residency in internal medicine and a hematology and oncology fellowship at the University of Florida, Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.

Dr. Sullivan has a special interest and extensive experience in the management of breast cancer. She previously was involved in national clinical trials for breast cancer patients. She has an active interest in clinical resarch, having previously authored a clinical trial. In addition, Dr. Sullivan treats all benign and malignant hematology cases, as well as being active in general medical oncology.

Prior to joining California Cancer Associates for Research & Excellence, Dr. Sullivan worked at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida, where she was a member of the Breast Cancer Leadership Committee for the Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Sullivan is an advocate of treating the whole patient through supportive care plans, psychosocial support, and understanding family dynamics and the patient’s state of mind. She feels that all of these processes play a role in healing. She supports the patient’s perspective and autonomy in the care plan, while providing her expertise and knowledge to guide the person through treatment.

Her greatest strength is her ability to communicate and listen to where her patients are coming from, particularly in times of distress. What she most enjoys about her work is interacting with patients and helping them through the most difficult of times, as well as celebrating their victories with them.

Dr. Sullivan chose to focus on oncology because it is a field in which she can have the most impact on a patient’s life. She likes that oncology is always changing, so one must continue to learn and evolve as new research data and medications constantly become available.

When not in the office, Dr. Sullivan enjoys the beach, yoga, nutrition and healthy cooking, and spending time with her husband and children outside in the beautiful San Diego environment.

Testimonial

“My first time at cCARE as a new patient: check in was effortless, the nurse was very kind, and the technician was great and drew blood quickly. Dr. Sullivan was thorough. Looking forward to the next visit.”
